Winemaker's Notes
This is our first release of a red wine from the infamous California drought.  The stressful weather conditions in 1976 not only caused lower tonnage, but the berries were smaller and slightly dehydrated.  The result was a decrease in the yield of juice.  This naturally occurring concentration of flavors intensified every component of the wine including nose, taste and finish.  In particular, the varietal character of briary fruit flavors is greatly expanded compared to noon-drought years.  We suggest early consumption if you are looking for full enjoyment of the concentrated fruitiness, while further bottle age of two to four years will see great change in complexity.

Jerry E. Luper, Winemaker
